New Superintendent of Schools Announced

A Special Announcement

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As the Acting Superintendent of Schools, it is my privilege to share with you that after an extensive search, the Board of School Directors has announced its intent to appoint Dr. Lisa Palmer as the next Superintendent of Schools of the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

The appointment is expected to be acted upon at the next meeting of the Board of School Directors, scheduled for Monday, February 22nd at 7:00PM in the Library of Strath Haven Middle School.  Dr. Palmer’s official tenure as the new Superintendent of Schools is scheduled to become effective July 1st, so as to allow time to find a permanent replacement for her in the Business Office and to allow time for a transition into the new role.

Dr. Palmer holds a doctoral degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania and has served as the Business Manager here in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District for the past five years. Previously, Dr. Palmer served as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the Cherry Hill School District in New Jersey and as the Assistant to the Superintendent for Financial and Management Services in the Radnor School District.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of School Directors, Dr. Richard Sonntag, Board President, stated that “We are thrilled that Dr. Palmer emerged as the top candidate in a competitive search process that drew highly qualified applicants from all over the eastern United States. The Wallingford-Swarthmore School District is very fortunate to have such a strong team in place, which enabled us to take this opportunity to promote from within. With the support of our entire school community, the Board of School Directors looks forward to working with Dr. Palmer and our outstanding faculty and staff to maintain and enhance our standing as one of the premier school districts in all of Pennsylvania.”

To assist as part of Dr. Palmer’s transition and any other changes related to the impending appointment, the Board of School Directors has asked me to remain in the District in the role of Acting Superintendent until the end of the current school year, pending the official start of Dr. Palmer’s tenure as the new Superintendent of Schools.  I ask you to please join me in welcoming and celebrating Dr. Palmer as she assumes her new role as Superintendent of Schools in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. More information and special events to follow.

                                                                        Respectfully,

Michael Pladus, Acting Superintendent of Schools
